Kit Development

(Holland Lop Kit 1 hour old)

Kits are born hairless, blind and deaf.
at one day old, they can squirm around
and are able to find their mothers scent.
They sleep all the time, except when their mother
pops into the nest box to feed. At this time they must
always be kept warm.
Kits can easily become cold and die from exposure.

(The same Holland Lop 1 Week old)

Kits are now fully furred and their
shading is now more pronounced.
They are able to move around the nest box
and at times even making it out.
If you notice a kit outside the nest box
at this age is it still important to gently
place him back in to keep warm.

The same kit at 10 Days old

Kits eyes begin to pop open.
There colors have become clear
and they now have much more control over
there bodies and can move more freely.

Now 2 weeks old

The kit is now becoming fluffy
and if a lopped breed, ears are beginning
to fall.
The kit has control over it's body and can jump
in and out of the nest box.
At this age the kit may nibble on hay
in the nest box and even attempt to play with
siblings.
Though they still sleep most of the day
the kits have become curious of their surroundings.

At 3 weeks old

The kits have now moved out of the nest box
and are able to eat pellet feeds
and hay
and needs very little nursing from mommy
The kits can now run and jump and stand
freely on their back legs.
By this age lopped breeds ears are now beginning to fall.

.

At 4 weeks old

The kits are now fully weaned from mommy
and have become very playful.
at this age the kits are ready to be moved
out of the nursery and into their own cage.
However keeping the siblings together in a cage
for another week or two is a good idea.

At 6 weeks old

The kits are now full fledged bunnies
and ready for a cage of their own.
It is now safe for bunnies to go to their new
home.
