Rabbit Coat Patterns

 

 

There are 3 Basic coat Patterns of rabbits

First is the dominant pattern for the agouti colors.
This pattern will show the banded hair shaft
white belly
white on the underside of the tail and all other normal agouti markings.

The agouti colors include:

the chestnut/castor
opal
lynx
chinchilla
Squirrel.

The second coat pattern is the Tan pattern.
It pattern is recessive to the agouti but dominant to the self.

The Tan pattern group includes:

Tans
Otters
Silver martens
Sable martens
Smoked
Pearl martens.
The body is solid colors, but there are the agouti/tan pattern markings.
The belly and underside of the tail is white however not in tans.
The markings can be orange to gold, fawn or silver white.

The third coat pattern is self.
This pattern is one solid color over the entire body with no markings.
Colors include:

Black
Blue
Chocolate
Lilac

non-extension- Black Removed

These colors include:

Torts
Sable points
Fawns
Oranges
Reds

These colors are recessive to the colors that are normal extension of black.
Breeding any of these colors to another of these colors
will result in offspring of these colors.
