"Peanuts"

The Pituitary Dwarfism "Peanut" Gene

A peanut is a kit that  inherited a double dwarfing gene, passed on  from each of it's parents.

A peanut at birth will be about half the size of a normal newborn kit, with underdeveloped hind quarters,

and bulging eyes and in most cases have a domed shaped head and smaller almost pointed ears. This can be seen clearly when  comparing them to the normal sized kit?  Peanut kits are often  born dead or die within a few days following birth.

Photo's below taken of a peanut kit, next to a normal sized kit from the same litter. These photos were taken when these kits were only 18 hours old.

Notice the petite size and bump on top of the head,

This photo shows the underdeveloped hind quarters, bulging eyes and tiny pointed ears.

Notice how tiny a Peanut kit is when held in your hand.

As compared to a regular sized kit shown here.

The same two kits, at 3 days old. Notice how the normal kit has developed

Where as the Peanut has not developed properly and has not grown at all.
